What Would Happen if you Replaced Fear with Confidence?

Have you ever arrived in a country where not only do you not speak the local language, but you land at the airport with no idea how to get where you are going?

We did this on Wednesday. We arrived to Vienna, Austria around noon local time, having not slept for over 18 hours. I speak about 2 words of German that I learned from watching "The Sound of Music" a zillion times. But honestly, Rick Steves said everyone here speaks English (and they do!).

As we walked off the plane, a woman said, "excuse me?!" and asked me where baggage claim was... I looked at her confused. Like, did I look like I knew?! No I don't know, I told her. But, maybe we should just follow that symbol on the sign with the suitcase on it?!

You see, as much as I had never been to this airport, I understand the lay of the land when it comes to signage and using past knowledge to get my way around anywhere.

We looked up the hotel and quickly figured out which subway stop we needed to take to get there. Again, this would freak many people out, but when you know how to ride a train, you just use Google Maps and your past knowledge to get where you need to go. No use in getting scared.

Cut to my fabulous Facebook Group, The Fashion Truck Tribe. Recently we asked the group "What's your biggest fear?"

So many women said they were scared to fail, not have customers or run out of money. And I see that as an opportunity to make a massive mindset shift.

How can you transform your fear into confidence?

  • What if you succeeded?
  • What if you had so many customers you often felt overwhelmed?
  • What if you made more money than you ever expected?

In today's culture, we're so easily triggered by fear. But what if we noticed the fear and turned it into confidence?

Let me give you 3 quick ways to turn your fear into confidence:

  1. When fear comes up, write it down. I find that often my fear manifests in my body. I can FEEL it physically come up. As soon as I feel my heart beat faster, my thoughts go south and my breath gets shortened. I notice the fear and I don't try to stuff it with wine, or yelling or ignoring. Once I notice it... I observe it and then whip out my notebook (or really any piece of paper!). Then I start furiously writing all the thoughts, feelings and crazy ideas that I've noticed. Sometimes I need to cry to release some of the feelings, but even if I don't, I try to get alllll the things down on that paper and out of my body. For so many years, I stuffed, ignored or drank my feelings into my body. Now I just get that sh*t out! And once it passes, I'm usually all good!
  2. Decide what it is you want, based on the fear of what you don't want to happen. All of your thoughts have 2 sides to them. Fear (we also call it stress...) shows us what we don't want to happen. And from that, we know that we can decide what you do want. For example, thinking "I don't want to fail" shows you that you want to be successful. Switching to "I want to be successful" is going to be a heck of alot more inspiring than not wanting to fail. Anytime you get caught up in thinking about what you don't want, switch the thought around to what you DO want.
  3. Ask yourself if this is real, and is it your original thought? This one is big. Consider the fact that all your thoughts aren't actually real. We have so many thoughts per minute, doesn't it just make sense that some of them aren't real? Perhaps that could give you some permission to let some thoughts that aren't serving you go? Or maybe some of your fear-based thoughts are not your own. You could have learned them from your parents or grandparents. Maybe the culture you grew up in had some limiting beliefs built in (I see this alot with people who grew up in communist countries). What if you could release those thoughts that aren't yours and decide to adjust what you owned as your own?

Try these tips and let me know what works for you!

As we continue this adventure in Vienna (which is quickly turning into an adventure in Europe), I'll keep you updated on my fears that come up. For now, I'm good. And I'm about to walk down to a bike shop and buy a razor scooter (for reals, I'm obsessed and everyone has them here!).

Here's to making lots of friends and making lots of money,

Do You Need A Business Partner?

"Would you rather feel overwhelmed or peaceful?
Of course you'd rather feel peaceful.

Would you rather like to feel energetic, and adventurous and excited about something? Or bored?

You must move toward what you you've become... or you become complacent and dissatisfied.

To take action from a place of split energy is always unpleasant.

So let's say you're focused on something that's not working. To dig in and try to offer more effort and to think harder about how your going to get it done, just causes you to pile more engines on in opposition

So the rule of thumb that we would apply, if we were in your position, is that we would follow the good feeling thoughts."

- Abraham Hicks

This past weekend I watched a video of myself from 2014. Talk about having a pile of opposition showing up all over my face.

I looked terribledepressed, like I wasn't even there... straight up dead behind the eyesSeriously, look at the screenshots from my videos!

I was 3 years into my business and I had what everyone on the outside saw as major success. On the inside I was falling apart. In those 3 years I had crashed my first fashion truck (my business), developed crippling reactive arthritis for 3 months where I could barely walk or move, was chained to my desk all day, everyday and felt like my business was at a total stand still.

On top of it, I was SO worried ALL.THE.TIME. about everything- money, customers, social media, buying, money, family, my relationship, what the hell I was doing with my life. Seriously, to have spent three years riding the highs and lows of my business had made me a complete wreck. Can't you see it in my face?

I spent much of 2014 depressed and overwhelmed. I didn't know how I had gotten to that place, but it sucked.

I felt alone in my business and wanted to take a vacation from my life and run away.

I wish in that time, I had someone to help me.

My family, my boyfriend with a business degree, my friends... they're all amazing listeners but the real deal is that they aren't business consultants, they're not life coaches... and they just didn't understand what being a boutique owner felt like.

In that time, I needed someone to simultaneously lift my spirit up, tell me how to adjust my business to keep hitting my numbers and be my ally to pull me out of the lonely, overwhelmed situation I was in.

In 2015 I ended up on a woman's email list who sent emails that resonated with me. I loved her message, I listened to her audios and felt in my heart that she was the one who could help me figure out what I was doing with my life.

I signed up with her as my coach and wow, how quickly my life changed. Changed in the best ways... I got happier, I felt lighter and a year and a half later I'm the happiest and most creative I've ever been in my life.

By saying yes, admitting that I needed help, I got exactly the help I needed! Help from an expert to get me from where I was to where I am now. Her 1:1 support was like the business partner I never had and so desperately needed. She knew about things like manifesting, journaling, online marketing, Facebook Ads... all these things I never had the energy or awareness to deal with before.

I now live a lifestyle that I LOVE and have a business that LIGHTS me UP! Every three months I travel to a new spot that I've co-created with my boyfriend, I have the most delightful clients who get massive results, the relationship with my family is only about being family, and new opportunities flow to me with ease (very exciting things coming soon!)My business is easy, makes perfect sense and I am more centered and focused than I ever believed I could be.

You don't have to keep filling your head with doubts, questions and struggles. You don't have to be alone in your business. You can have clarity, alignment, and forward momentum, right now. It is possible for you!

When you work with me in my 1:1 Boutique Consulting Program, I am your best business partner ever.

I help my 1:1 clients make these shifts so they can take winters off, they can spend more time with their kids, buy the car they most desire, have freedom to take vacations and love their business... with ease.

Who are the types women who work with me in my 12 Week 1:1 Boutique Consulting Program?

They are:

  • Ambitious & Creative
  • Have had their retail business for 2-4+ years (although I have helped many of total newbies!)
  • Ready to do the work to have the life they desire
  • Happy & Positive
  • Not scared to invest in themselves and their business
  • Know that where they are now isn't working and something has to change

Maybe that list sounds just like you? And perhaps you can relate to how I felt in my third year in business, lonely and ready to ask for help?

Right now I have 4 spots open for my 1:1 Consulting Program. I'd love to invite you to schedule an appointment to connect with me if you feel like what I've said speaks to and you're really ready to create change in your life and business. I know these spots will fill up by the end of the month so if you're reading this and feeling excited, click that button below and let's talk!

I Had to Get Kicked Out to Rise Up

On Monday, six years ago, I was laid off from my $100k/year job as the Accessories Merchant for Delia's. I had just turned 28 and had worked my ass off in corporate retail for the past 7 years.

The first day "off" I remember crying a lot, being mad, sad and just plain exhausted at the emotional rollercoaster working a corporate job had been. I was tested to my limits and always come out on top. Why now, when perhaps I could have some relief from the hustle and bustle, did I feel empty and upset?

THE CORPORATE WORLD HAD FAILED ME.

I was SO good at taking "the path"... I got high honors in high school, went to a top-tier northeast University and got an amazing job 14 days after graduation. I was smart and savvy in corporate so I was quickly promoted and promoted again. By the time I moved to NYC, I knew I was bound to be a Vice President of some retail business in 5-10 years.

But no, I was asked to leave. After only 90 days on the job. The Universe presented an assignment I didn't realize I was ready for- my OWN business.

I had to get kicked out to rise up. The decision to leave corporate had to be made for me, because I feared leaving on my own.

6 months later I drove out of my parents driveway with The Fashion Truck. If I knew where getting laid off would take me, I bet those first days and weeks crying in my apartment on 2nd Avenue would have been easier.

Or would I have been terrified at the amount of work and push I would need to grow over the past 6 years?

Who knows?

What I do know is that everything happens for a reason, and that our path in life is much longer and bigger than we can see today.

We have to keep showing up for life, even when it feels hard.

To making lots of friends and making lots of money,

Emily

What it Takes to Take Off

Last Wednesday, we took off for 3 months in Antigua, Guatemala. It had been about 6 weeks since I had flown (after logging a flight every 2 weeks during the fall!) so taking off somehow felt like a new experience.

Or maybe I was just seeing it through new 2017 eyes?

When we took off from Boston Airport… and made it above the clouds to the bright blue sky and blinding sun, I realized that taking off on a flight is so similar to taking off in business.

Starting and growing a business is truly like flying, defying gravity. Defying what you’ve been taught, told to do… and not staying stuck on the ground with everyone else.

It all starts with boarding the plane. It’s exciting and you are committed to taking that trip now, walking down the aisle to find your seat.

Just like writing a business plan, you’re settling into your seat, buckling up for the ride to come.

The runway leading to take off is easy, smooth and your stomach has butterflies. Kind of like when you start telling people what you’re plans are… maybe you start a Facebook page or begin to buy products.

Then you take off, and the view is great! You’re seeing things you’ve never seen from that angle and height before. Your perspective of the world shifts, you start to step into your role as a business owner.

But just as you are feeling comfortable there, you hit the clouds. This is the bumpy part, your vision is blurred, you can’t see the ground anymore and it can be a little scary. There are some clear spots, but mostly thick, cloudy areas. Maybe you have to hold on or ask for help during this stage of your business. You need an experienced pilot to keep you on the upward trajectory.

Until that moment finally comes, you’ve climbed above the clouds… you can see the sun, the skyline horizon. It’s light and bright.

Looking down you see those clouds from before are now puffy, like cotton balls, and actually, so beautiful. The sun is so bright, it blinds your eyes, but it feels amazing on your face. You feel the lightness, weightlessness, the incredible pure bliss of being so high in the sky, somewhere where— for all intensive purposes— humans shouldn’t be.

We’ve been told for so long that humans shouldn’t start businesses. It’s hard. It’s a lot of work. You’ll never make it. Most businesses fail after 2, 3, 5 years.

Maybe you are in that cloudy stage of your business? It doesn’t feel consistent, smooth and with a clear path? That’s ok and that’s where I get excited to help.

My private consulting is meant exactly for that cloudy stage. You’ve got a business up and running, but gosh, it seems like it’s going to be hard to rise above the clouds and feel the sun on your face.

You have new ideas every week. The technical part of growing seems daunting, where should you start? And maybe you feel like sales have been good, but the money in your bank account doesn’t reflect the work you’ve been putting in.

Maybe you're ready to hire a consultant who teaches and guides you on how to not only get through the clouds, but basking in the sun on the other side? A coach who knows how to help you with all the technical stuff, but can give you all the mindset support when shit really gets real in your business.

SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE MY 1:1 CONSULTING PROGRAM!

I’ve re-opened only 4 SPOTS FOR 12 WEEK 1:1 CONSULTING. Yes, the 1:1 Consulting program that literally TRANSFORMED women’s lives in 2016.

Last year, I helped women go from $6k months to $16k months, buy new cars, start from scratch to a $10k 1st month in biz, have fully booked out schedules (with down time!), move to their dream locations… and honestly, be happier, feel more calm and run their business with ease.

If you're feeling like you’re ready to take 2017 by storm, but all your BIG plans feel a bit too overwhelming already…

STOP RIGHT THERE.

I want to help you get a FIRM GRASP on 2017 and really make shit happen this year.

You can choose to give yourself a chance, rather than saying: "oh well my dreams are probably too big...", you could buckle down for 12 weeks with me and REALLY make yourself proud.

Prove it to yourself that you can defy gravity and make it through the scary cloudy part in your business.

🌟 You'll hardly recognize yourself by the end of these 12 weeks! 🌟

This is a super high-level customized 12 weeks. You'll get training videos, book lists, workbooks, everything you need to succeed.

You want a business partner? Great- that's me for twelve weeks. You'll have weekly 1:1 calls with just me and full email access to me for the entire length of us working together. We’ll talk through any blocks that come up and I’ll give you all of the woo-woo stuff I do to keep my vibe high and hit my goals.

You + Me... we're going to deep dive into your business to figure out what is going right to push it, what's going wrong, and stop it. No more wondering why you have too much inventory or why there's not as much money in the bank as you thought there should be.

Picture this: In just 12 weeks, you've got your business running like a super profitable machine, you have a plan set up and in place, and you KNOW it's all working exactly the way you imagined in the dreams you had about your retail business.

WHY ME?

I know finding good teachers is the hardest part.

If you want to do what I've done... be featured in magazines, win awards, have six-figure years, know the latest in internet marketing and social media, develop a strong money mindset and go out and kick butt in business... I'm probably your teacher.

Ready to discuss your 2017 goals and how we can work together to achieve them?

Book a FREE call with me to see if my Private Consulting Program is for you- the woman who won't settle for staying on the ground.

The 4 spots I have open will fill up quickly so please get on my calendar if working with me is something you are thinking about!
